Accepted in to the UK NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines in 2017. If you work in a one to one setting with clients that are suffering from trauma, addiction, neurodiversity, anxiety, anger and other strong emotions, you may have found that traditional approaches such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) are not always effective. This is where ACT comes into its own. Its basis of accepting negative thoughts and feelings rather than trying to 'fix' them is proving very successful. This course will give you an overview of the approach and a range of interventions taken from ACT that you can start using immediately with your clients. This session aims to introduce the six core principles of ACT: Contact with the present moment Cognitive defusion Acceptance The observing self Values Committed action By the end of this session attendees will be able to: Understand the difference between ACT and other approaches.
